Ability to Question Status Quo is what Keeps a Co in Top Form
On an ongoing visit to the country, India born chief of
Microsoft Satya Nadella outlined the three things that will lay the foundation
of decades to come. These include HoloLens, Data Mining and Quantum Computing
System. Calling it a “long-term bet“ Nadella said that Microsoft is working on
Quantum Computers which will solve harder challenges which are computational in
nature yet not solved.
According to a September blog by Allison Linn of Microsoft,
Quantum Computing allows scientists to do computations in minutes or hours that
would take the lifetime of the universe on even the most advanced classical
computers used currently. That, in turn, would mean that people could find
answers to scientific questions previously thought unanswerable. It could be
used to solve some of the world's toughest problems, from world hunger to the
dangerous effects of climate change.
Nadella, who is currently touring the country on a business trip
along with promoting his book called Hit Refresh, said that in the long-term
horizon Microsoft is trying to build Quantum Computing by bundling math,
physics, and computer science to have a quantum computer. He added that he is
very excited by the work being done by HoloLens. “People are really able to
transcend space and time to colloborate. Just imagi ne teleportation is not
just StarTrek, its possible in real life,“ said Nadella.
The currency of our times will be the ability to collect data
and analyse it into actionable intelligence, he said in New Delhi while in
conversation with cricketing legend Anil Kumble who Nadella called his `hero'.
Talking about how it is important to constantly innovate, Nadella said in the
43 years of Microsoft's existence, every five years the company has faced an
existential threat. “Someone will write about a new company that will kill us.
But we must be doing something right to stay relevant and that is questioning
the status quo.“ He added that whether it is cricket or a large organisation,
the ability to question the status quo is very important.
Kumble added that in cricket, one has to Hit Refresh before each
match or a series in order to be on top. Nadella, who is only the fourth CEO to
head Microsoft, said that the ability to continuously innovate is what turns a
good star tup into a suc cessful com pany since no concept is a perpetual
motion ma chine and so one needs the ability to have new ideas to grow.
Since taking over at the helm of Microsoft, Nadella has made
cloud first and mobile first his strategy which has turned around the fortunes
of the technology giant. In India, Nadella announced setting up of data centres
in the country and is aggressively pushing its cloud business to not just the
government and large enterprises but also to small and medium companies.
On Tuesday, Microsoft announced a partnership with home-grown
cab aggregator Ola to build a new connected vehicle platform which will be
taken to car manufacturers globally and will offer vehicle diagnostics,
improved in-car productivity, advanced navigation, predictive maintenance of
vehicles etc. As part of the deal, Ola will use Microsoft Azure to power Ola
Play , the company's existing con nected car platform.
During his current trip, Nadella visited the company's Hyderabad
cam pus and is also sla ted to meet with so me top govern ment officials.

BENGALURU Homegrown cab hailing application Ola has partnered
with tech giant Microsoft to build a connected vehicle platform where the
former will access the company's cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence
and productivity tools to enable predictive maintenance of vehicles and improve
the passenger experience. Besides the tech giant is a cloud provider to Ola,
the cabhailing app will also use Microsoft's cloud computing service Microsoft
