Paras Chopra's road to entrepreneurship was accidental. Chopra, a Delhi College of Engineering alumnus, released a beta version of the Visual Website Optimiser in 2009--that determines which part of a website receives more traffic--on a public forum while working as a research and development engineer at Aspiring Minds. As the product attracted a large number of users, Chopra quit his job in 2010 to focus on Wingify.

However, there is nothing accidental about the choice of Wingify as the winner of the Bootstrap Champ category in the Economic Times Startup Awards 2017. The jury was quick and unanimous in choosing the company which aims to make website optimization simple and easily accessible for its clients.

“Winning the ET awards in bootstrap category is special because I hugely admired all bootstrap companies. The award gives us more push towards continuing to grow despite not raising any funding,“ said Chopra.

Wingify makes SaaS products in marketing that help businesses increase orders, enquiries and sign ups from their website by analysing user behaviour and interactions and using those insights to make informed decisions on what changes will improve their website goals.

Founded in 2009 by Chopra, Wingify has grown rapidly and recently achieved monthly recurring revenue of $1 million, a coveted landmark for any product company. Its `Visual Website Optimiser' and `PushCrew' products are used by more than 5,000 brands across 90+ countries to analyse website activity and increase conversions. The company's client list includes Microsoft, General Electric and Walt Disney Co.

Wingify's main offering is based on the concept of AB testing, a testing method using two different versions of a website where 50% of the traffic sees version A and the rest sees version B. Based on the data recorded, a company can determine which version is more successful in terms of salesconversions. Such testing tools are popular in case of consumer facing websites, for example, an ecommerce site. The tool can help marketers design the pages of the website to ensure maximum traffic conversion.

“India has a big opportunity to create many more bootstrapped companies and I'm glad ET chose to have this category . If more people come to know that bootstrapping is an equally attractive way to building a company , I'm sure we will see more successful companies,“ said Chopra, who featured in the Forbes India `30 under 30' list in 2014 and 2015.
