MANAGER SPECIAL.... UNFOLLOW THE LEADER?

UNFOLLOW THE LEADER?

Make sure you are not engaging in any of these behaviours if you want to be a good manager to your team

According to professional coach Rita Sever, supervision is a critical function of leadership that is often overlooked and the quality of supervision is often what makes or breaks a leader and an organisation.
The last thing you want is to fail your team or your organisation. Not sure if you are that person? Then read up and identify these seven subtle signs which are indications of a bad boss.
Send mixed signals to employees
If you're best friends with your employees one minute, and the next you are being hard on them with heavy work, you may be sending them mixed signals and losing productivity as a result.Similarly, if you give your employees vague assignments and unclear due dates, and then hold them accountable for missed deadlines or errors, your expectations probably aren't clear and you could be heading for confusion, and possibly souring the relationship.
Don't give any feedback
Are you bouncing back and forth between extremes? It is unhelpful to the employees. There are ways to be direct and constructive as well as tactful when giving feedback as a manager.Give prompt and specific feedback.Likewise, ask for feedback from your employees. It can open the door to communication.
Let things go
If an employee asks for guidance and you blow it off, if you ignore the organisation's policies, if you don't meet with your employees one-on-one except for their reviews, you are having trouble with your employees.
Play favourites
Do you let some supervisees get away with things you'd never allow for oth ers, like showing up late or missing deadlines? You might be setting a bad example by being partial to a few.
Look down on employees
If you remind your employees every day that they work for you by looking down on them or giving orders, then you aren't being a good supervisor. A good boss works in partnership with co-workers rather than acting as an authoritarian.
Don't allow employees to talk or brainstorm ideas
Bad managers believe that if they give their employees an inch, they'll take a mile. On the contrary, meetings are essential and communication is the key to a productive work relationship. One way to make team meetings more welcoming and open to discussion with contributions from all employees is to open with an icebreaker or a quick game.
Not on board with company's mission
If someone mentions the organisation's missions or values, bad managers tune out and distract themselves. If you don't believe in your company's mission, how can you expect it from your team?
