GADGET GIZMO SPECIAL..... THE BEST BATTERY IN EVERY BUDGET

THE BEST BATTERY IN EVERY BUDGET

Can't get your smartphone to keep up with your Web and entertainment demands? Here are the phones with the longest lasting batteries across multiple price ranges
Smartphone technology has evolved rapidly over the past decade, but one problem persists -battery life is never enough. One way phonemakers com pensate for increasingly demanding hardware is by adding more battery capacity. But a big battery isn't the sole contributor to long battery life; other factors like optimisation of components and software also matter. To arrive at smartphones with the best battery life, we turned to GSMArena's standardised tests. Their Endurance Rating suggests the number of hours a phone can run if you make one hour of 3G calls, consume one hour of video content, and browse the Web for one hour. Using this benchmark, here are our choices for phones available in India with the highest endurance ratings across price ranges.

MID-RANGE

The phone with the highest Endurance Rating of 149 hours is the Lenovo P2, and it accomplishes this feat thanks to a combination of the Snapdragon 625 chip and a massive 5100 mAh battery.A bundled 24W fast charger also tops it up entirely in an hour and a half. One reported drawback is that the camera isn't great, but at Rs 14,999, the Lenovo P2 is the best battery performer you'll find at this price.

An alternative is the Redmi Note 4, with a pretty high Endurance Rating of 119 hours. It's got the same Snapdragon 625 chip and a large 4100 mAh battery. Unfortunately, it doesn't charge as fast as the Lenovo P2, but has cool features like an IR blaster to control your appliances. The 4 GB RAM 64 GB storage variant sells for a reasonable Rs 12,999, if you manage to grab one in a flash sale.

Samsung's Galaxy J7 2016 too belts out a good Endurance Rating of 101 hours. It's got an in-house Exynos 7870 octa-core chip paired with a 3300 mAh battery. While this phone, priced Rs 12,999, has brand value going for it, the build feels cheap and there's no fingerprint scanner.

HIGH-END

In this price range, we have the Moto Z Play (pictured) with an Endurance Rating of 100 hours, thanks to a 3510 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 625 chip. Priced at Rs 24,999, it has premium build, decent cameras, and is compatible with Moto Mods accessories. The only drawback of would be the size of the phone, which packing a 5.5-inch screen feels slightly large in the hand.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 packs an Exynos 7880 chip paired with a reasonable 3000 mAh battery, and scores an Endurance Rating of 95 hours. The phone is water resistant, supports Samsung Pay in India, and sells for Rs 29,999.

For Rs 29,999, you can't go wrong with the OnePlus 3T either. Other than the high-end Snapdragon 821 chip, 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage, the phone has a big 3400mAh battery that earns it an Endurance Rating of 83 hours.

PREMIUM

In the premium segment, we start with the Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 (pictured), which posted a great Endurance Rating of 115 hours. The phone is essentially a bigger version of the A5 2017 model and has a big 3600 mAh battery to help it achieve those numbers. This smartphone currently sells for Rs 33,490.

The Google Pixel XL is also well known for its long battery life, coming in at a 78hour Endurance Rating. Its 3450 mAh battery provides juice to a Quad HD display, Snapdragon 821 chip and 4 GB of RAM. The Pixel XL runs the latest Android operating system and is right up there with the iPhones and Galaxy phones when it comes to the camera. The Pixel XL will set you back by Rs 66,000 today.

The iPhone 7 Plus, despite packing a relatively smaller 2900 mAh batery, cranks out a 75-hour Endurance Rating, thanks to better optimised hardware and software that isn't as taxing on the battery. The iPhone 7 Plus sports dual camera lenses at the back for 2x lossless zoom, it is water and dust resistant, and also sports stereo speakers. This, the larger of the two iPhone 7 models, starts at Rs 61,999.
