APPS SPECIAL .......YOUR SMARTWATCH SHOULD BE APPY TOO

YOUR SMARTWATCH SHOULD BE APPY TOO

Even though we don't see too many smartwatches around, the market is still growing. A common misconception about smartwatches is that they are only good for notifications. But just like apps enhance your phone's functionality, your smartwatch can be made better too, says Karan Bajaj

ANDROID WEAR

Muzei
If you need to have unique watch faces, Muzei is highly recommended. This free app converts iconic artworks into wallpaper for your Android phone and watch. The app also automatically blurs and dims the artwork so that you won't have issues seeing the time. Before boredom sets in, you can have it cycle wallpaper daily with new artwork -it's like a new watch face every day .

Wear Mini Launcher
While this app is currently compatible with only a few Android wear watches, the unique functionality makes it a must-have. It adds a slide-out app drawer for quick launch of apps -slide once to bring out app shortcuts, slide again to show quick toggles for adjusting brightness, connectivity and ring style. This saves a lot of time because most smartwatches have a convoluted menu that has you scrolling through all your apps to find the one you need.

Fluenty
That users will use a smartwatch to keep a track of incoming notifications is a given. However, when you need to reply to a message, chances are that you will still take out the phone and start typing.Fluenty changes that by generating smart responses based on your responses. It works with SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook messenger and Google Hangouts -just select smart reply and Fluenty will show you a list of 10 replies that you use most often.

Papercraft
The small screen of a watch makes it difficult to play games, but if there is one game you should have on your Android watch, it is Papercraft. This is a simple game where you control a spaceship made of paper -you just need to shoot your way through the level.Destroying enemies gives you points and you earn achievements as you play. You can even share scores on Google Play leaderboards and challenge your friends.

WATCHOS

Evernote
The Apple Watch version of this popular note taking app gives you many more options and features compared to the default Notes app. You can view all your notes and even dictate new notes from your Watch -they will be transcribed, added and then synced with your Evernote account across all your devices. In addition, the app also shows notifications and reminders for your existing notes on your watch.

7 Minute Workout
As you can tell from the name, this app helps you stay active by taking up just 7-minutes of your time. You don't need any equipment -just follow the directions shown on the watch. There are also animated characters to help you identify the correct way of working out and spoken instructions will guide you along. The good part is that you don't need to have internet access to use it. Finally, it syncs with the Apple health app to store all your workout data.

Calcbot
Apple doesn't offer a calculator app on the Watch but this is among the few third-party ones available. Calcbot gives you a calculator, convertor and tip calculator on your wrist. You get a simple layout, press harder to bring up the operations (add, subtract, divide, multiply) menu. Convertor works in the same way -press firmly to bring up the operations menu to choose currency , weight, distance or temperature. The tip convertor automatically showed us local currency and you can even adjust the calculating percentage for tips.

Trivia Crack
Trivia crack pits you against an online opponent for a quick trivia game. It also supports Hindi (you will see text on your watch in Hindi).Simply choose a category and you'll get a multiplechoice question on your Apple Watch. You only need to tap on one of the answer choices, so it Is very playable, even on the small display of the watch. Keep in mind that when you first run it, you have to create an account using your iPhoneiPad first.Once this is done, you don't need to use your phone to start a game.
