Marathon vacations

Marathons are garnering global interest by keen travellers

If you are a `fitness adventurer', you will know that holidays that focus around fitness and fun (Marathon Vacations) are truly the magic words with Indians, of late. We bring further joy to you where you can plan an outdoor long weekend getaway option from your city .

Region: Entabeni Game Reserve
Date: June 24, 2017
The Big Five Marathon in the Entabeni Game Reserve in the Limpopo province--which lies between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park-of South Africa, is held among the wildlife of the African savannah. Runners from all over the world congregate in one of the most spectacular Big Five game reserves in Africa. The Big Five Marathon follows a testing route through hills, valleys, ravines and gorges, as well as woodlands and open savannahs.
The race course is set in the most beautiful and challenging of terrains. In fact, there is a lot of variation in the course. The Big Five Marathon features a classic 42.195km marathon and a half marathon. The first 11km has a lot of climbing, followed by 5km of quick descent. After 8km of flat running there is a steep climb from 25-30km. Although the last 12km has some climb, the hardest part of the race is behind you. The total elevation is 1,145m.
The run is certainly not for the faint-hearted considering that a runner might encounter unusual situations where one is either running past a lake full of hippopotamus or be witness to a herd of bison running quite close by or a sky full of amazing birds.Running with the animals remains a quite incredible experience. In the end, one would've run over all kinds of animal tracks. Although being close to animals could be slightly scary or unnerving for someoverall it is quite safe with the rangers close by .
