BREAKFAST AROUND INDIA

Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day - whether it kicks off that metabolism or drives those hunger pangs away, the first meal of the day is vital. For a great breakfast is also a harbinger of all good things to come. So yes, there is no way you can give it a miss. Which means, your breakfast has to be more than ordinary - with dashes of those perfect eggs, pancakes, idli sambar, or sandwiches that can totally make or break your day!

On that note, take a look at the best places to grab breakfast at around the country. 


1. Good Luck Cafe, Pune
Nothing says a bun maska with chai better than a breakfast at Good Luck Cafe. Ask any Puneite and he would swear by the bun maska at this Parsee joint. A favourite haunt for most late night party goers (who return home only in the wee hours of morning), Bun Maska and chai is the perfect way to kick off your day! 


2. Tertullia , Pune 
If you're a big fan of the classic English breakfast then this is the place to be at! The elaborate breakfast menu comprises masala omelets, egg and bacon, fresh juices, and pancakes to go with great music in the background. If you are lucky, there may be a live band as well. 

3. Candies, Pali Hill, Bandra 
This place has one of the best rooftops in the city and has some amazing interiors as well. It opens its doors to the public as early as 8.30 am. The scrambled eggs and tomato-and-cheese sandwich with Mausambi juice are great options for breakfast. The chicken pie, chocolate cake slice, and lemongrass cooler are other popular choices, being distinct in their taste. 

4. Theobroma, South Mumbai 
It might seem like an unusual choice for a breakfast joint, being renowned for brownies, but when they’re not baking their sweet delights, they serve some classic breakfast options. Their full English breakfast includes two sunny-side-ups, baked beans, bacon, sausages, mushroom tossed with corn and onion, hash browns and toast, making it an absolute must try.

5. Flury's, Calcutta 
Flury’s is a legend in itself. Standing tall for more than five decades in Park Street, this place is always synonymous with legendary food. A great place for partaking in sandwiches, eggs Benedict and French toast, only a few places can come close to the elaborate English breakfast spread here. 

6. Chaina Ram, Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi 
This sweet shop, huddled in the alleys of Delhi's Chandni Chowk area, is a great place for a perfect Sunday breakfast. Poori Chhole with Karachi Halwa, made in pure desi ghee, sums up the menu for a great Sunday breakfast. This sweet shop has been running since 1901 and is one of the oldest sweet shops in Old Delhi. It also claims to be the pioneer of Karachi Halwa. The moong dal halwa and meethi matthi during karwa chauth are a must-try. 

7. Saravana Bhavan, Connaught Place
A must-try for every South-Indian food lover in Delhi, this place serves one of the most delicious rava idlis and Mysore masala dosas. The fact that you have to wait in line before you are guaranteed a place speaks volumes about its popularity. 

8. Karim's, Delhi 
Karim’s need no introduction for any foodie. Started in 1913, it is undoubtedly the city’s most popular destination for treating your taste buds to good food.

While this place may be a popular lunch and dinner joint, their mouth-watering Niharis with Khamili roti make it a great option for breakfast too.

9. Haldiram, Noida 
This is a favourite haunt for most office goers in Noida and a great place for dining with family. They have an elaborate spread ranging from sandwiches to chola bhaturas and dhoklas and samosas. 

10. Diesel Café, Mangalore
If you are craving a western-style breakfast - think pancakes, waffles and cheesy omelettes - there is no place as good as Diesel café in Mangalore. Sumith Manoharan, an oil engineer who shuttles between Mangalore and Dubai, says, “I love their waffles and pancakes. I think these are the best I have had so far”. The next time you are here, make sure to get there early, for it could get really crowded on a Sunday. 

11. The Ocean Pearl, Mangalore
They boast of a great South Indian breakfast and some of the crispiest vadas in Mangalore any time of the day. Other must-try dishes are Rava Idli, Mushroom Dosa, Bournvita Shake and a one-of-its-kind filter coffee.

12. Vidyarthi Bhavan, Bangalore
This iconic restaurant sits in the heart of the city and draws hordes daily. Their masala dosas, rava wadas and idlis are a must-try. Dosas and vadas have the most wonderful crunch ever and I guarantee you won't visit this place just once. Opt for their filter coffee to wash down your meal. 

13. Smoke House Deli, Indiranagar (Banglore)
If you want to eat the best European food in Bangalore, this is the place to go. Bagels or cereals with milk and cream, along with omelettes with different herbs and stuffed ingredients like jalapenos, creamed mushrooms, grilled fish etc. are nothing short of delicious. French toasts, hash browns and pancakes make it a huge draw for English breakfast lovers. The airy ambience and hand-drawn interiors are also a huge plus.

14. Anand Bhandar, Nagpur
For the love of samosas and jalebis, there is no place like this one. The place opens as early as 8 am and is packed with people biting into samosas and jalebis. So make sure to go early in the morning so that you can sip on their piping hot chai while you bite into hot crispy samosas. They also have South Indian breakfast options like idlis and dosas.  

15. Dakshin, Chennai
What could be better than savouring South Indian food while in the capital of South India? This place serves some of the tastiest idlis and sambar, so make sure to stop by the next time you are in Chennai. 

16. Infantaria, Baga, Goa
No place dishes out better omelettes, thick shakes and croissants like this one. Located in Baga, this place is hard to miss. Try their Ferrero Rocher shake while you busy yourself with their cheesy fluffy omelettes and you're bound to purr with contentment. Their cheese and chicken croissants are also top notch so don't miss out on those. 

17. Artjuna, Panjim, Goa
This cafe near the Anjuna flea market serves up healthy sandwiches, chilled milkshakes, freshly squeezed juices and scrumptious baked goodies in its garden setting. If you're looking for more than just breakfast, try a yoga or Pilates session!

18. Raghu Dahibara Aloodum, Cuttack
People of Cuttack love Dahibaras and this place serves just that. This dahibara has its own signature style of preparation with a hint of spiciness and a mild flavor of pudina. The dahibaras are soft, succulent and have a great depth of flavor. 

19. Teapot, Mayfair, Bhuvaneshwar: 

This place serves not just one or two breakfast items but an entire breakfast buffet. The lavish spread ranges from South Indian fare of idlis and dosas to sandwiches, burgers and pancakes etc. Add to that, salads and fresh juices and you have a sumptuous breakfast spread. 

20. Café Shimla Times, Shimla
Nestled away from the hustle and bustle on the way to the Mall, Café Shimla Times offers mesmerising views of the city. Wood fired pizzas would be your best bet for breakfast while you are here.

21. Sharma Tea Stall , Lalbagh, Lucknow
This is one of the oldest places in Lucknow serving tea in a kulhad. Not only is their tea a must-try but even the samosas and bun maskas are a treat to bite into. 

22. Beyond Coffee, Hyderabad
This place is a great way to breakfast the English way. Hash browns, danish pastries, muffins, doughnuts, waffles and crispy bacon and eggs are some things to look out for while you get breakfast here.
