Move over cutting chai and bhutta...

... there's more to comfort food during monsoons
While, we all have been complaining about the inconvenience caused by heavy rains, there's no denying that we love the Mumbai monsoons. As you sit by your window after a hectic day at work, savour some of these scrumptious comfort foods.
HOT CHOCOLATE
To sip on a streetside cuppa cutting chai, you will have to drag yourself out of the comfort of your home. Skip all that effort and simply reach out to your refrigerator. Heat up a cup of milk and add i your favourite cocoa or chocolate syrup to it and indulge in this hot and easy f to-make drink. Your woes about the rain are sure to disappear for a while, and we can vouch for it!
MOMOS
Steamed and served hot, this north-east speciality is made with both veg and non-veg fillings. A steamy plate of momos, with a spicy sauce made from garlic and tomatoes, can make for an amazing evening snack.
KHICHDI
A simple, healthy and wholesome dish, khichdi is not just a quick meal option, but when served hot on a cold rainy night with some pickle and papad, makes for an awesome delicacy . To make it more interesting, try adding veggies like cauliflower, potatoes, peas, pumpkin, beans, etc. and top it with a blob of desi ghee.
GAJAR KA HALWA
How can we miss a dessert in this list? A rich sweet dish made with grated carrots, loads of dry fruits and condensed milk or mawa, it is one of the most delectable savouries for monsoons. The best part about this halwa is that it can be served hot during this weather and cold in summers.
SOUP
What better than a simmering bowl of soup to restore your soul and keep you warm this season! Be it tomato, chicken or mushroom -a few sips of this warm appetiser is all you need to soothe your senses while you wonder how to commute to work the next morning, as it pours cats and dogs outside.
SIZZLERS
Since sizzlers are served on a hot plate with meatfish, veggies and rice, they are the latest to join the list of comfort foods. A rainy night, an open balcony and a plate of sizzlers is all you need to spice your meal time!
RASAM
A south-Indian speciality, rasam makes for a delicious comfort food item this season. What makes it apt for the weather, are the spices like pepper, ginger, chilli, etc. that help you get rid of seasonal illnesses like cold and cough. Drinking piping-hot rasam will have a soothing effect on your throat.
MOONG BHAJIYAS
While we all have our favourites when it comes to pakodas, some enjoy eating the ones with onions, and others prefer potato or palak. However, if you want to really savour pakodas during monsoons, moong bhajiyas are the apt choice. This crunchy snack made from ground pulses should be served hot with a spicy mint chutney .
