MOBILE SPECIAL....... Best of MWC 2015

 Best of MWC 2015

Mobile World Congress …. some of the game changers that were launched at the expo

Year after year, crowds gather at Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress, one of the biggest expo's dedicated to Mobile technology. Year on year we see new devices debuting in its hallowed walls. Each year being THE year that will change history forever. This year it's the comeback of Samsung and HTC and the advent of high end 64 bit processors for Android Smartphones.
HTC ONE M9
No point even pretending to be surprised here, the HTC One M9 is almost exactly as the leaks said it would be. The M9 retains that same aesthetic, not that there's anything wrong with that. The One has always been one of the most attractive among the Androids. This is one of the first phone unveiled using Snapdragons much awaited 810 heavy duty 64 Bit processor. With an expected 3 GB of RAM. Where the M8 had a Snapdragon 801 with 2 GB of RAM.
HTC has brought out the big guns, in this case the big lens out, with a whopping 20.7 megapixel camera with f2.2 and a 27.8mm lens. Capable of 4k video recording. The Ultrapixel camera, however, makes it back as a front facing selfie cam. This is the wise, especially when you consider how well the Ultrapixel sensor works in low light. So far, going by just the numbers, the M9 looks great in the camera department.
The rest remains the same. There's no change in display size 5 inch, using the same SuperLCD 3 at 1080p resolution. Though the battery has been bumped up from 2,600 mAh to 2,850 mAh.The M9 now runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, though with its Sense UI over on it.
SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 AND S6 EDGE
With the Note 4 and the Note Edge bringing the innovation, there's a lot of expectations on the S6. A phone that Samsung has been going about with much swagger, with teases and leaks. The S6 and the S6 Edge is finally here and does not disappoint. Samsung has gone design first with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge, ditching that now familiar look for something that sleek and sophisticated. Shedding of the plastic skin of phones past and into a metal and glass future that actually warrants the price the S series fetch.
The S6 Edge makes the S6 and most other phones out there look positively boring. With the same metal and glass body, except in this case, it's a moulded along both edges of the display, rather than a flat one or an edge one. A sleek, sexy and symmetrical design that's just stunning.
The screen is a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display at 4k resolution at 577 dpi, protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on both sides. The device sports Samsung's new Octa Core Exynos 7420 processor, with 3 GB of ram. In the absence of microSD the internal memory comes in 32, 64 and 128 GB. The phone is powered by a 2,550 mAh battery, 2,600 mAh on the Edge.Camera wise the numbers are the same with the rear camera, which is a 16 megapixel shooter with a wide f1.9 aperture. For the front camera the S6 has a 5 MP camera, no doubt with all the selfie tools Samsung has been packing into their latest crop of phones.
BLACKPHONE 2
The Blackphone 2 is one of the most secure phones you will ever use. Manufactured by a company called Silent Circle, the BlackPhone 2 aims to take over the market which Blackberry has been losing out fast. With a secure Android overlay called PrivateOS and a whole host of silent apps for texting, messaging, calling and more, which encrypts all your data.
On the hardware front the Blackphone 2 has the latest Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor with 3 GB of RAM microSD support and a 3060 mAh battery with quick charge. The big question is if the BlackPhone will make it to India, let's hope so.
HTC VIVE VR WITH VALVE
While the likes of Oculus Rift and Sony's project Morpheus taking it nice and slow, perfecting the technology. Out of nowhere comes the HTC Vive VR in partnership with none other than Valve. The same guys behind Half-Life and Steam, one of the largest online platforms.
Vive VR looks straight out of the Matrix. With the front face of the unit patterned with laser sensors that track your head precisely to one tenth of a degree, with the assistance of a gyroscope and accelerometer. In the Vive are two 1200x1080 screens, one for each eye, both flicker-free and running at 90 fps to prevent eye strain.
The Vive VR syncs with a Steam VR Base Station, which tracks your movement accurately within a 15 by 15 feet room, allowing you to walk around in photorealistic environments. Though, the unit also comes with wireless controllers for more traditional gaming.
A developer version should be out in the second quarter of the year, while the consumer version is slated for release at the end of the year.
With Steam's platform for game distribution and special VR experiences being planned with several studios, the Vive VR looks like it might win the VR race.
