Mumbai dwellers Emili, Saranya and Joycelin recently took a short break to visit Elephanta Caves. Emili says: We reached Gateway of India at 10 am and bought ferry ride return tickets for ` 250 from Bhau cha Dhakka.

The first cave is the most majestic one, which houses the three headed sculpture of Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh. Post lunch, we saw the two canons and bunkers used by soldiers many years ago. After clicking pictures, we made our way back to the jetty as the last boat was at 5 pm. Snacking and chatting, we returned to Mumbai happily.

Welcome to the land of juiciest apples — Kalpa in Himachal Pradesh. ET-Travel reader Krishnan N truly liked taking a holiday in the misty valleys and hills of Kalpa. This is a town with a history of ancient temples. The Sutlej River meanders through deep gorges and thewinding mountain road is bordered by Chilgoza forests.
The serenity of this sleepy hamlet was not often visited byforeigners until recently, but there are still relatively few visitors. There are few places to stay in Kalpa and more, below, in Reckong Peo where travellers must stop to get their 'inner line' permits to continue upwards to the Spiti Valley.
If you are a photography enthusiast then this is your chance to get started with landscapes and sceneries. The view from Kalpa is so breathtakingly beautiful that you may start to get the feel that you are perched in the lap of the mountains with the entire range of peaks being visible.
You can also view the sacred Shivling Rock on the Kailash mountain that changes its colour at different points in the day. Carry a warm jacket here to keep the chilly mountain winds at bay.
