Many Indian smartphones have a 'close to stock' flavour of Android: devoid of any performance sapping features. That being said, most of them are still on Android 4.2 which lacks a number of features as compared to Android 4.3. With the Q1100, Xolo has offered one of the first midrange smartphones with Android 4.3 out of the box.
Some of the changes in Android 4.3 include the redesigned camera interface, improved dial pad and interactive notifications. You also get lockscreen widgets, quick settings, the option to launch the camera from the lock screen along with better memory management. All these features improve the usability and stability of the Q1100.
Q1100 comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display (1280 x 720 pixels). While the brightness and contrast are good, it suffers from average viewing angles. Also, the screen is a fingerprint magnet and needs constant cleaning. Hardware includes quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB storage (expandable). As expected, the phone had no issues playing full HD videos as well as games such as Asphalt 8. It comes with an 8MP rear camera which took great shots in daylight. Indoors, the images suffered from visible noise. The camera records full HD video and give you the option to choose video encoder (MP4, H263, H264) as well as audio encoder to get the desired quality. Video quality is good and thanks to the secondary microphone the audio is also great. With a 2,000mAh battery, the Q1100 manages to struggle through a full day. Even with the preloaded battery optimisation apps, the battery drained from 100% to less than 5% in 12 hours of use. If you don't mind a smaller display, consider the Motorola Moto G (16GB) which is a better phone overall.
