TECH REVIEW ............Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 311

TECH REVIEW Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 311

SPECIFICATIONS
8-inch touchscreen (1280 x 800 pixels), Exynos dual core 1.5 Ghz processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB + microSD slot, 5MP rear + 1.3MP front camera, MHL, 3G with calling, Android 4.2, 4,450mAh battery, 316 grams Gorgeous display, great performance, good camera output, clear audio
Average quality video recording
If you want a premium tablet with high-end features and performance, there are very few options available apart from the ubiquitous iPad. The most prominent of those is the Samsung Galaxy Tab series. The original Galaxy Tab and Tab 2 were great value for money. With the Tab 3, Samsung has delivered another fantastic device.
We think the Tab 3 is strikingly similar to the Galaxy S4. It even has the hyperglaze finish on the rear panel in a slim (7.4mm) and lightweight (314 gram) design. The left side holds the microSIM (only in 3G version) and micro-SD card slot while the power and volume buttons are on the right side. It is plastic, but the build quality is very impressive.
The 8-inch display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels with good viewing angles. The display is not amoled or super amoled, but offers rich colours and sharp details. The only place where we felt the display lacking was black levels — we did notice a some greys compared to amoled, clearly visible during videos. We liked how this 8-inch version has a slim bezel, which not only makes the display bigger, but also keeps the overall size down.
Under the hood is a dual core Exynos processor clocked at 1.5Ghz, 1.5GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. We played full HD videos in various formats as well as games such as Real Racing 3, ShadowGun and DeadTrigger. Everything ran smoothly with no visible frame drops or sluggishness. The Touchwiz interface is easy to navigate and Samsung’s own array of apps fulfills most use cases.
Being a tablet, we did not expect too much from the cameras. However, the rear 5MP camera takes fantastic photos in daylight and even indoors there was noise visible only at 100% zoom. Video recording is a slight letdown as it's below average in quality — lacks detail and colours. Thanks to the MHL port though, you can easily connect the tablet to a larger display. Audio output from the in-ear speaker as well as external loudspeaker is clear and loud.
Battery life with few calls, audio and video use as well as gaming came to be over a day easily. Overall, we highly recommend the Galaxy Tab 3.0. If you don't want calling and 3G connectivity, you can go for the cheaper, WiFi-only variant of this same 8-inch Tab 3 or the Apple iPad mini — both are priced just below 22,000. If you can spend a bit more, you can go for Samsung’s own Galaxy Note 510 ( 30,000). The Note has a quad core processor and uses Wacom technology on its 8-inch display for pressure sensitive response and comes with the S-pen stylus for precise drawing.
