TECH REVIEW ....................Micromax Canvas Doodle 2

TECH REVIEW Micromax Canvas Doodle 2

Price Rs.19,990/
Moving ahead of the 5-inch phablet race, the new dual SIM Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 has a 5.7-inch display. It's a smartphone aimed at those who like to draw on their devices (Micromax has preloaded apps for drawing on the device). At the sub 20k price, the Canvas Doodle 2 is the only phone of its kind. The 5.7-inch display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with good viewing angles but colours feel a bit washed out. The non-removable rear panel is made of aluminum — this makes the phone sturdy and gives a premium feel. A flip cover that doubles up as a stand is included in the box along with a slim stylus. Although the stylus is an improvement over the one that came with Canvas Doodle, the lack of a slot to keep the stylus is disappointing. Carrying phone and stylus separately defeats the purpose of being able to draw anywhere.
The quad core processor, 1GB RAM and the near stock Android interface keeps things running smoothly. The 12MP camera interface is sluggish and takes time to focus. Although, results are good once you you give it time to focus and hold it steady. Battery life is just over a day with moderate use — expected from the 2,600mAh battery.
We think the Doodle 2 offers a good big screen experience at a great price. For a bit more, you can also consider the Huawei Ascend Mate ( 25,000). It has a 6.1-inch display, quad core processor, 2GB RAM and 4,000mAh battery in a slim unibody design. Buy a 500capacitive stylus and the Ascend Mate will work just as well for doodling.

SPECIFICATIONS 5.7-inch display (1280 x 720 pixels), 1.2GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB + micro SD, 12MP rear/2MP front camera, Android 4.2, 2,600 mAh, 220 grams Large display, fantastic build quality, good day to day performance, innovative flip case No slot to store stylus, washed out colours on display, sluggish camera interface
