MBA NEWS... Interviews and written tests do help

Interviews and written tests do help

CAT candidates, who are not among the high scorers this year, can forget about getting into IIM Ahmedabad, while only those with an overall score of 95 percentile and above can consider trying to get admission at IIM Kolkata.
With the declaration of the CAT 2012 results, as students eagerly look forward to get into the premier institutes, it’s important to understand the admission procedures of the various institutions.
At IIM Ahmedabad, the CAT score is the single-most important factor for admissions, whereas for IIM Bangalore the candidate’s previous academic record also counts equally.
IIM Kolkata has decided to give female candidates three extra points in line with the new initiative on gender diversity.
IIM Bangalore says on its website that
“Domestic candidates are admitted through the regular admission channel that is based on applications received through the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). These candidates are required to take the CAT, and if short-listed, attend a writing test and personal interview, and provide three letters of reference from persons who know them closely in terms of their academic/professional performance. Final selection is based on performance in CAT, scholastic achievement, work experience, performance in the writing test, interview, and the letters of reference.”
According to IIM Kolkata, “Candidates will be short-listed based on the CAT score and academic performance, provided they achieve the prescribed minimum section-wise and overall CAT 2012 percentile scores. For open category candidates, 95 percentile and above is the overall CAT score eligibility. After that, three points will be given to female candidates, 10 points for class 10 marks and 10 points for class 12 at the short-listing level for the personal interview round. Finally, to clear the personal interview round, work experience of a candidate will be taken into consideration.”
At IIM Indore, candidates are short-listed for written ability test and/or personal interview on the basis of their performance at the CAT, their academic record, and relevant work experience.
Final selection will be based on the candidate’s academic record, scholastic achievements, relevant work experience, CAT performance, written ability test and the personal interview.
