GE India Technology Centre to introduce more India-specific products

GE India Technology Centre is planning to introduce about 30 more India-specific products by 2015. This will be in addition to about 30 such products delivered by the centre during the last two years. According to Mr. Gopichand Katragadda, Managing Director of GE India Technology Centre, the new products would be in the areas of energy, healthcare among others. GE is also looking at expanding the company’s technology centre in Bangalore which is also known as John F Welch Technology Centre (JFWTC). JFWTC is GE’s single largest integrated R&D unit globally which is expected to have a headcount of 5,000 people by the end of this year from about 4,500 now. Mr. Katragadda said the company would spend about $60-mn (around Rs. 330-crore) over the next three years to expand the centre. The company has already invested about $200-mn in the Bangalore centre. According to Mr. Katragadda, nearly 10% of GE India’s revenue comes from the innovations carried out at its India Tech. Centre anchored by JFWTC.
