FOOD SPECIAL..HERBS

SINCE TIME immemorial, herbs have been used in ayurveda; many have been restudied and reresearched for confirmation about their benefits. Some of these herbs are listed below.

SPIRULINA: Spirulina, a super food, is a type of bluegreen algae with healthenhancing components such as protein, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids. It also contains nutrients, including B complex vitamins, betacarotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium and an essential fatty acid.
In studies done on animals, spirulina improved their immune fighting response.
Plus, it has a high concentration of amino acids (almost 60 per cent of its content) which makes it a good nutritional supplement. In some studies it was also seen that taking spirulina helped protect against a hyper allergic response typical in allergies.
When you take antibiotics for a long duration, it kills the good bacteria of the gut and results in an imbalance in the gut flora. Taking spirulina helps re-grow the good bacteria in the intestine.
Spirulina is also being researched to see its benefits in viral infections like herpes and viruses causing coughs and colds. In a study related to patients with mouth cancer and lesions, taking spirulina seemed to reduce a precancerous lesion known as leukoplasia. Spirulina also helps detoxify the liver and improves liver cell regeneration.

BARLEY GRASS JUICE:

It is very rich in nutrients that support healthy blood and circulation such as iron, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin B12, pyridoxine and proteins. The amount of calcium and iron in barley grass is much higher than normal. In fact, barley is known for its rich source of calcium (more than milk). In addition, chlorophyll, vitamin K and calcium are all involved in blood clot formation and breakdown.
Use of barley grass is beneficial for weight loss. It is an excellent food for the heart, healing of ulcers, correcting blood sugar problems and most of all as a general tonic.

GUGGUL:

This is a plant resin used in combination with other herbs as a medicine. There are different kinds of combinations, the most common being for the treatment of hypothyroid conditions, arthritis, high cholesterol, acne, hemorrhoids and obesity. Guggul combination medicine removes the blockages that make the nutrient supply and the waste from cells all stagnate at one place and create tissue toxicity. Obesity, arthritis and high cholesterol may be different diseases, but they are the manifestations of a similar blockage in the tissues. Some preparations are kanchnar guggul, kaishor guggul, etc.
In conclusion, herbs have the power of healing, provided we also balance our diet and lifestyle while taking the treatment.
